The first edition of the Spanish Conference on Information Retrieval stems from the realization that a relevant research and business activity in the field has taken shape in Spain in the last few years, as is attested by the significant presence of Spanish researchers in the main scientific fora, and a raising corporate activity in the field. This perception was conveyed, among other initiatives, into the Spanish Information Retrieval Seminar (SERI 2009), held in April 2009 at the Facultad de Ciencias de la Documentación of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Among other proposals, the organisation of the present conference was discussed at that venue.
The 1st Spanish Conference on Information Retrieval will be held at the Escuela Politécnica Superior of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid on 15 and 16 June 2010. The conference aims to be a meeting forum for researchers, practitioners, and teaching professionals with an interest for the Information Retrieval field, where an overview of the activity in the scope of (though not necessarily restricted to) Spain can be obtained, seeking to provide a get-together for discussion and progress of future initiatives towards the promotion of the area in our country.
